The little things we take
for granted mean so much
to the people who receive
services from us. When I worked in direct care, preparing good food or
going on an outing meant so much. If you really believe in something
working in direct care gives you the opportunity to do something tangible about it. A person can really make a
difference here if you want to by treating everyone with
dignity and respect, but only if you care ... only if
you have the passion.

to keep families together by providing in-home family preservation services (home-based support). Started through a partnership with the National Basketball Players Association, this program works with parents, siblings and extended families in their homes, providing individualized support and respite. This enables families to cope more effectively with the issues they face when raising children with developmental disabilities. |

Little City realizes that raising a child with a developmental challenge is a lifelong commitment. Families One empowers parents to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of honoring this promise. By working with schools, governmental and community agencies, even finding jobs for parents, Families One is more than a program on paper. It is often the tie that binds families together.
...through the Special Needs Adoption ProgramA child with a challenging condition laughs, plays and feels the same emotions as any other child. Children with developmental challenges truly can teach others about the world around them because of their unique perspective on life. Yearning for a loving and supportive environment just as all children do, children with developmental challenges need a special place where they can grow and thrive. The goal of the Little City Foundation Special Needs Adoption Program is to find loving and permanent homes for children with developmental challenges. The adoption program works to carefully match parents and children, taking into account the unique characteristics and qualities of each. Due to the highly individualized nature of the adoption process, program staff work with prospective adoptive parents to ensure that each family is prepared to embrace the challenges and joys of being a special needs adoptive parent. |
