Bringing People Together Through the Power of Music

The Coterie was born out of the idea of bringing people together through the power of music and at Little City, we also believe that music can create a  closer, more inclusive world. That’s why we use music in a variety of ways throughout our programs to help individuals with disabilities.

Music can help our participants express themselves, improve their communication skills, and develop new coping strategies, which is why we incorporate it into many of our programs, including our residential services, day programs, and vocational training programs.

Your support can spread the power of music and make a real difference in the lives of those we serve, providing access to resources and programs that can change their lives for the better. Please help us continue our vital work by donating now or at the event and together, we can create new opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

We’re so thankful to you and the Coterie for driving this mission forward through the power of music.

About the Coterie

“A Coterie is defined as an exclusive circle of people with a common purpose.”

In 2019 five Chicagoland musicians/friends, Art Nunez, Frank Olivera, Tavo Paul, Wolfgang Paul, and Mike Dermont, came together for an afternoon “jam session”. Finding instant chemistry and having a great time, this “Core” group of musicians thought it would be fun to learn a set of songs and book a show and invite other area musicians to perform alongside them. This show, which included some 15 guest musicians, was an amazing success and the Core realized they might be on to something. The only challenge was, “How to share/divide the pay among all the musicians”??

Rather than split the pay 20-ways, the Core proposed that all the money earned be donated to charity. To which everyone agreed, and the concept of THE COTERIE was born.

Since their first event, the Coterie has raised tens-of-thousands of dollars with 100% of it going to various charities! They’ve added Michael-Mojo O’Brien, Dan Dillion and Doug Schoenbeck to the Core and have performed with over 100 different musicians throughout Chicagoland, adding new musicians to each event. Each Coterie event features a new theme or genre of music and introduces a new line-up of musicians. No two performances are ever the same!

The mission of the Coterie is to continue playing events and raising money to “Help Others Through the Power of Music”
