Meet Alan Miller

Celebrating DSP Week 2025!

For Alan Miller, helping people is a journey, not a destination.

For more than 40 years, Alan had been volunteering at places like the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, blood banks, and more to help people and support agencies doing meaningful work in the community. Now in his sixties, Alan said the opportunity to work at a place like Little City and work even more directly with people he can support was too good to pass up. And in his first year and a half at Little City, he said he has only grown to love the job even more.

“I’ve just loved learning about each person and each personality, and I try to go with their passion. Someone like Bobby loves trains. We’ve gone to the train museum and every weekend we try to get to the Metra station. Josh loves to take walks outside so we try to do that every day. Every person has their own interests and passions, and it has been fun to be part of that.”

The residents at Port Center West love having Alan around, too. While many of the residents like Howard (pictured with Alan) are highly independent with their own jobs, schedules, and living spaces, they love having a reliable and supportive person like Alan around to help with meals, community outings, daily activities and more.

Thank you, Alan, for all you do! Little City feels blessed you found us in your lifelong journey to help others!
